The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) is the largest public institution dedicated to research in Spain and the third largest in Europe. Its mission is to foster, coordinate, develop and promote scientific and technological research, of a multidisciplinary nature, in order to contribute to advancing knowledge and economic, social and cultural development, as well as to train staff and advise public and private entities on this matter.

CIB is one of the largest and most prestigious research centres of the CSIC. It is a dynamic and multidisciplinary institute covering an array of disciplines in structural and cellular biology, medicine, agriculture, environmental sciences, chemistry and biotechnology. The multidisciplinary character makes CIB unique and able to facilitate the integration of different methodologies and experimental approaches at a time.
CNB is also one of the largest research centres of CSIC that is distinguished by its versatile interdisciplinary research, which combines molecular biology methods with the latest technology in the fields of functional and structural biology. CNB has been recognised as one of the eight Severo Ochoa Centres of Excellence in medicine and life sciences.
